"Passive Sensing in Organizational Research: State of the Art, Opportunities, and Challenges"
Passive sensing technologies, defined as methods to collect data from individuals in situ without requiring their direct interaction with any artifact or person, have ushered in a new phase in the study of behavior in and around work organizations. Instead of inferring what people do from their answers to surveys collected at specific points in time, it is now possible to continuously gather data on people’s physical movements, physiological states, and interactions with others. Prof. Audia will report findings from several studies conducted using such technologies. He will also discuss how these technologies fit into the broader trend of increased quantification affecting society at large and the challenges and opportunities they pose.
